It's battle time!

We are currently taking applications from any crews who might be interested in some kind of feud. Nothing with knives or fists though, more like this sort of thing:

Saturday 17 July 2010

Boring update.

So we played our first show just over a week ago and since then we've had to turn down three shows. I really hope we can start accepting shows one of these days.

Friday 9 July 2010

Tonight!

So it's our debut tonight. Here's us after practice last night.

We are excited about it btw.

Tuesday 6 July 2010

Thanks!

Couple of thank yous before our first show on Friday as i'm pretty sure i'll not thank anyone on the night.
Here goes... in no particular order:
Pete Jez for booking us and putting us on so high on the bill on our debut.
Stephen Houston for taking pictures.
Not Squares and Girls Names for letting us move into their practice room and use their gear.
Matt Gilligan for the logos.
Hmm... I guess everything else is all us. See you on Friday turkeys!

Top 5 Little People in Hollywood

For no reason whatsoever here's my top 5 'little people' in Hollywood.
From this point forth I will be using the term 'LPA' in reference to 'Little People Actor' as i'm not totally sure what the PC term is.

Danny Woodburn
Danny is one of the most prolific LPAs in the business. He's done everything from Jingle All the Way to Beverley Hills 90210 to Watchmen. Not only that but he's the best sidekick to appear in Seinfeld, as Kramer's friend Mickey. This guy has comedy timing coming out of his ears!

Deep Roy
Most of Deep's roles seem to put him under a mask but you'll probably recognise him as the Oompa Loopmas in the remake (aka the bad) Willy Wonka movie. That's not the only bad Tim Burton remake he's been in though as he played two child apes in Planet of the Apes. He has been in good films though, he plays Droopy McCool the Kitonak chidinkalu horn player in Return of the Jedi and was the snail rider in The Neverending Story (which is better than Labyrinth but that's another story for another time).

Peter Dinklage
Dinklage is considered one of the best LPAs in the business. He's generally known for refusing roles which in any way look down on LPAs and its paid off; he's been nominated for the Independent Spirit and Screen Actors Guild awards for best actor for his role in The Station Agent and was genuinely terrifying as Miles Finch in Elf. Unfortunately he played a mime in the Bloodhound Gang video for The Bad Touch... he isn't a very good mime. Best stick to being a badass Pete.

Billy Barty
The late Billy Barty started acting in 1933 when he was just nine years old. Unfortunately due to his stature at nine years old he played a baby. I imagine in this day and age LPAs are more inclined to turn down this kind of role as it is incredibly insulting but back then it was a different time and Billy was still a trend setter and an inspiration to all LPAs everywhere.
Billy appeared in Willow and true to form he was the elder statesman all the others looked up. He also appeared in Masters of the Universe and was creepy as hell in it.

Warwick Davis
This guy has done it all. As recognisable as any 'normal' actor in Hollywood, Warwick is THE man. He owns a talent agency which specialises in work for actors under five foot or over seven foot to help them avoid niche roles. It does seem like he takes the best work for himself though as he plays three different characters in the Harry Potter films, has been in The Chronicles of Narnia, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Phantom Menace, and of course both Leprechaun in the Hood movies.

Corrigan - Medicine Stick

One of my favourite all time 'local' bands are the mighty Corrigan. They were one of the first Belfast based bands I saw and the first I made a point of going to check out whenever they played. Unfortunately they kinda went off the boil, played less and less frequently, wrote songs that weren't up to par to the first album, and they split. They still leave a pretty awesome legacy in their album 'How To Hang Off A Rope' and with the bands that formed after their demise - LaFaro, Cashier #9, and John Edgar Voe.

To this day I still say Martin Corrigan is the best front man Belfast has seen (go ahead and name me someone better) and his lyrics are second to none with their twisted humour and downright disturbing notions ("Well I sent for my sister. And they sent me her cousin. I said she sure is quite good looking. Send me half a dozen!")

With songs like McArthur, Water Ballad, and Sometime I Think About, Corrigan will forever live in my heart as the founders of the modern music scene in Belfast. And yes, I do realise how ridiculous that statement sounds.

They never amde any 'official' videos but here's one Martin, 'Uncle Senator' Joe Greene (Documenta / Olympic Lifts), and Neil Hughes (Driving By Night) made while on a drunken trip to L.A. a few years ago.

THEY'RE THE IRISH PUPPETS!
